Although Miami’s superstar InterContinental Hotel has always been popular with all types of travelers, from leisure to corporate, its meetings make up a substantial portion of InterContinental’s overall business. That’s because the property boasts 35 meeting rooms and several ballroom configurations that can accommodate up to 2,000 guests for a single event and has its own banquet kitchen and executive chef. As for outdoor space, events come to life at the SkyLawn, which offers 360-degree views of the Miami skyline and Biscayne Bay, along with the Seaside and Picante Terraces.
That’s why, after a major renovation of its guest rooms, suites, and Club Lounge, the city’s downtown InterContinental Hotel has announced that it will now turn its attention to the facility’s meeting and event spaces as part of a major multi-million dollar renovation of the property. To be completed in September 2026, General Manager and Regional Director of Operations Glenn Sampert explained that the decision to renovate the hotel’s 135,000 square feet of indoor/outdoor meeting and event spaces comes at a pivotal time for hotels and meeting spaces as the expectations of today’s planners and attendees continue to evolve. “With Miami’s ever-growing popularity as a meeting destination – and as a host city for major international events, the renovation is intended to provide attendees with a modern, elevated experience. With highly flexible environments designed to enhance productivity, inspire creativity, and seamlessly blend technology with luxury, the InterContinental will reinforce its position as a leading destination for meetings and events in South Florida,” he states.
“As we look to the future of meetings and events at InterContinental Miami, this renovation is about more than just aesthetics—it’s about creating immersive, adaptable spaces that meet the needs of today’s meeting planners and customers who want to host everything from intimate gatherings to grand affairs,” says Sampert. “We’re especially excited about the integration of advanced event technology, enhanced lighting design, and refined finishes that elevate the overall guest experience. These upgrades allow us to deliver a more dynamic, sophisticated environment while maintaining the iconic energy and sense of place that defines our hotel.”
Parker-Torres Design, an international interior design and interior architecture firm based in Boston, is charged with the renovation details. The design will feature bespoke art installations that infuse the meeting rooms with the spirit of Miami, and capture its color, movement, and cultural richness; custom carpeting with contemporary patterns and textures; chandeliers and modern architectural fixtures; and reimagined wall treatments and finishes that combine innovation with timeless elegance. The color palette used throughout the meeting spaces, blending soft oranges, shades of blue, and muted greens, combined with varied patterns and textures, will result in a seamless fusion of modern design and advanced functionality throughout the hotel.
