The timing couldn’t be better because Tappan Hill has recently unveiled sophisticated updates to the property, particularly the promenade area. According to a recent announcement, these enhancements were done in collaboration with design consulting firm J.Henry, which introduced modern refinements to the reception space while preserving the integrity and charm of its century-old foundation, originally built in 1915. The renovation marks the first phase of a broader revitalization initiative for the venue.

Then, they’ll be blown away when they realize that they’re standing in the former estate of the famous 19th-century author, Mark Twain. Architecturally true to the period, this iconic stone structure provides an unparalleled backdrop for all types of corporate events, galas, and other gatherings, both indoors and outdoors, accommodating up to 250 guests. Additionally, the venue is operated by Abigail Kirsch, a culinary collective that offers luxury catering services (think: customized, locally sourced menus with innovative presentations) and exceptional event planning.
Drawing inspiration from the lush garden that once graced the space, enhancements to the promenade include the addition of decorative wall trim for a refined aesthetic and a fresh coat of paint in a deeper hue to create a more intimate ambience. Then, for truly dramatic results, light fixtures were also updated with elegant sconces and chandeliers. Infused with Victorian glamor, these upgrades enhance the space’s rich character while maintaining its historic essence.
“We took great care to honor the existing architecture, ensuring that the promenade’s storied past remains intact,” said Julia Henry, co-founder and principal of J.Henry. “Rather than a complete transformation, it was an intentional enhancement to elevate the space.”
The redesign also features a reimagined lounge layout, offering a warm and inviting atmosphere with plush seating and luxurious fabrics, including velvet. To enhance functionality, a custom wall partition was installed, providing enhanced privacy for the adjoining kitchen while also serving as a backdrop for photo opportunities.
