Motor City Mart, a Just Walk Out Store from Amazon, opened at Huntington Place — Offering Cutting-Edge Convenience to Visitors at One of the Largest U.S. Convention Centers
DETROIT, MI – 10/21/2025 – Huntington Place, Detroit’s premier convention destination, announced the opening of Motor City Mart, a Just Walk Out Store. The new retail concept leverages Amazon’s advanced “frictionless shopping” technology to deliver an exceptional, simplified customer experience by eliminating the traditional checkout process.
The Just Walk Out concept – developed by global retail leader Amazon to provide fast, convenient shopping – is featured in hundreds of entertainment venues, education facilities, healthcare centers, and stadiums around the world, including the O2 Arena in London and Wrigley Field in Chicago.

The Just Walk Out experience is powered by advanced technology. To enter the store, customers swipe a payment method such as a credit card, then simply pick out the items they want and leave—bypassing traditional checkout entirely. State-of-the-art systems record the selections and automatically charge the customer’s card, creating a seamless, contactless shopping experience.
The technology uses computer vision, artificial intelligence, cameras, and sensor fusion to process selections and track inventory in real time. The system benefits both customers and operators by increasing convenience, reducing wait times, and providing more merchandising space. Sodexo Live!, Huntington Place’s food and beverage partner, manages the store’s inventory and product offerings.
Motor City Mart is part of Huntington Place’s ongoing $100+ million investment and expansion initiative, which includes numerous facility upgrades and major projects such as the upcoming 25-story, 600-room JW Marriott Hotel, connected to the convention center via a skybridge.
