GUNTER HOTEL ANNOUNCES THE HIRING OF ITS FIRST-EVER VINYL AMBASSADOR

Gunter Hotel

The hotel now features a robust vinyl program, offering guests the opportunity to rent records to play in the comfort of their own rooms during the duration of their stay

SAN ANTONIO, TX (November 13, 2025) – The Gunter Hotel is pleased to announce that it has hired Gibb Diaz as its first-ever vinyl ambassador as part of its robust vinyl library program. The Gunter Hotel recently reopened following a major $57 million renovation. The hotel is honoring its musical history in several ways, including an on-site recording studio and record players in each guest room. Guests can now choose from nearly 1,000 vinyl records to reserve during their stay.

Gibb Diaz is now serving as the keeper of the vinyl library, making customized recommendations for guests, managing the record collection, and procuring a well-rounded selection of music for visitors to enjoy. Diaz is no stranger to vinyl, having an extensive personal collection that ranges from brass bands to hip-hop and everything in between. He is an industry veteran with over 25 years of experience in the entertainment sphere. He is also known as DJ GIBB and has previously hosted and produced shows on KSYM 90.1 FM and KRTU 91.7 FM in San Antonio.

“As the Vinyl Ambassador for the historic Gunter Hotel, my vision is to create a living, breathing music library that not only reflects the soul of San Antonio but also invites the community to take part in shaping it,” said Vinyl Ambassador Gibb Diaz. “My hope is that every person who interacts with the Gunter Hotel’s vinyl library feels a sense of discovery, connection, and belonging. The library should invite them to slow down, soak in the atmosphere, and feel like they’ve stepped into a space that celebrates both San Antonio’s culture and their own personal story. “

The Gunter Hotel’s record collection is the result of collaborations with Vinyl Mnky, local artists, and established San Antonio record stores. The program’s initial success has already prompted the hotel to expand it to better serve guests. Another vinyl ambassador will join the Gunter team in the months to come. Other Gunter employees will also help shape the record collection to reflect their diverse backgrounds, personal tastes, and shared love of music. This will allow the library to grow and adapt over time.

As part of his role as vinyl ambassador, Diaz plans to connect with the downtown community by curating playlists that highlight artists performing at nearby venues such as the Majestic Theatre, the Aztec Theatre, and the Tobin Center, giving guests a chance to experience the soundtrack of San Antonio before and after the show.

Music is at the heart of the Gunter Hotel’s latest renovation. In its former life, the Gunter Hotel often had big band leaders in residence. In 1936, famed blues musician Robert Johnson recorded his first-ever album in room 414 of the Gunter. Many musicians have made a pilgrimage of sorts to the Gunter over the years to record in the same room, inspiring the hotel to build a professional recording studio on-site, scheduled to open in early 2026. This, along with the vinyl record library and plans for consistent live music performances at the hotel, is part of the Gunter Hotel’s tribute to music.

The Gunter Hotel, part of Tribute Portfolio, also provides guests access to the Marriott Bonvoy program, allowing members to earn and redeem points during their stay and at various hotels and resorts across Marriott Bonvoy’s extensive collection worldwide.
