MUSIC CITY CENTER COMMISSIONS ANNIVERSARY ARTWORK

Music City Center Nashville

Local Artist Tony Sobota Awarded Contract

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Music City Center President and CEO Charles Starks
announced today the award of a contract for a commissioned art piece to
celebrate the facility’s 10-year anniversary. Local artist Tony Sobota
was selected to create the one-of-a-kind piece.

Sobota, of Nashville, was one of 10 qualified artists to submit 14
design concepts through the formal Request for Proposals process. His
untitled piece will consist of an acrylic painting on interlocking
panels.

“We were blown away by the designs that were submitted. Every piece
was worthy of display,” said Starks. “In the end, the selected piece
was truly representative of us as a facility, and we’re thrilled to
add it to our collection.”

As outlined in the RFP, interested artists were required to live in the
state of Tennessee and within 100 miles of Nashville-Davidson County,
and any proposed designs were required to commemorate the anniversary
and complement the architecture of the building.

Proposals were reviewed by an internal Evaluation Committee. Sobota’s
design concept was selected by the Committee in October and approved by
the Convention Center Authority last week.

The newly commissioned artwork will become the property of Music City
Center and will be on display on the east side of the Davidson Ballroom.
It will be part of the facility’s established collection, which
features a broad spectrum of artistic media, worth more than $2 million.

The Sobota piece is expected to be completed and unveiled in early 2024.
