Barb Silin of Overland Park Convention Center achieves Certified Venue Professional from International Association of Venue Managers

Overland Park Kansas Best Small Convention Center in North America

Overland Park, Kan. (Sept. 28, 2023)— The Overland Park Convention
Center is proud to announce that Sales Manager, Barb Silin, has achieved
the distinguished designation of Certified Venue Professional (CVP) from
the International Association of Venue Managers (IAVM). This notable
recognition is in addition to her credentials as a Certified Meeting
Professional (CMP) and Certified Tourism Ambassador (CTA).

The CVP designation, awarded by IAVM to venue industry professionals,
underscores Silin’s extensive experience and accomplishments in public
venue management. It is earned through the successful completion of a
rigorous written examination assessing a comprehensive knowledge of the
public venue management profession.

Possessing the CVP designation signifies three crucial attributes about
an individual: professionalism, a steadfast commitment to the industry,
and an unwavering dedication to ongoing professional advancement. Venue
professionals who attain this designation are acknowledged, both within
and beyond the industry, for their proficiency in their field.

“The CVP program was created by IAVM in 2015 to recognize the
competence of mid-level to senior level managers of public assembly
venues as well as assist in creating a professional development road
map,” IAVM’s Board Chair, Adina Erwin, CVE, said. “I would like to
offer my most sincere congratulations to our newest CVPs. There is no
doubt that their hard work and commitment are to be applauded within the
industry.”

Among the select group of venue management professionals honored with a
CVP in 2023, Barb Silin has been an integral part of the Overland Park
Convention Center since it opened in 2002.

“With over 23 years in the industry, our organization is extremely
lucky to have such a dedicated, highly trained and well-regarded
individual in our ranks,” Overland Park Convention Center’s General
Manager, Brett C. Mitchel, CVE, said. “The CVP designation is an
indication of demonstrated skill in professional growth, activity in
community affairs and development of knowledge within the management of
public venues.”

While the convention team is small in size, Silin’s achievements
contribute to a roster of notable employee accomplishments, including 6
Certified Meeting Professionals, 1 Sustainable Event Professional, 6
team members with Specialty Rigging Accreditation, 4 Certified Custodial
Supervisors, 1 Certified Venue Executive, and 1 recipient of the Connect
Association’s 40 Under 40 award.
