Making History as the First Woman GM at the Historic Hotel

San Francisco, CA – The Palace Hotel is pleased to announce Angie
Clifton as General Manager of the historic hotel in San Francisco and
the first woman GM in the 148 year history of the iconic hotel.

Clifton comes to the Palace from the 401 room San Francisco Marriott
Union Square. Under her leadership, she seamlessly led the team through
the 2019 record financial growth, 2020 closure, 2021 reopening and 2022
recovery.  Clifton’s vision and dedication drove improved employee
engagement and elevated already esteemed customer service.  During her
time at the Marriott Union Square, Clifton implemented numerous programs
that were instrumental to the hotel’s success.

Prior to her role at the Union Square property, Clifton was the Hotel
Manager at the Palace Hotel for two years. The hotel owners, management
and associates are thrilled to welcome her back. “_It is truly an honor
to return to the Palace and work alongside a team of professionals who
are as proud and passionate about the hotel as I am”, commented
Clifton._ ” _As a legacy hotel in San Francisco, the Palace is an
important part of the fabric of our City.  We have many wonderful
opportunities in front of us and I look forward to leading the Palace
ambassadors as we support each other, our partners in the community and
continue to provide exceptional experiences for our guests.”_

Clifton brings years of dedication, hard work, and a very positive
strategic insight to all endeavors.  Her extensive hands-on experience
in key areas of hotel operations and her commitment to her team
contribute to the overall success of every property she has worked with.

Clifton began her hospitality career in Canada in 1996 as a Room
attendant/night cleaner at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise.  Her strong
work ethic and commitment to service led to several promotions to
management roles in Housekeeping and then to Front Office Manager. After
11 years at the Lake Louise property, she moved to Washington DC to
become the Director of Rooms & Operations at the Fairmont Washington DC.
In 2012, Clifton accepted her first Hotel Manager position at the
Fairmont Copley Plaza Boston.  Two years later, she was ready for
another challenge and transferred to the Westin Georgetown. In 2017,
Clifton moved to San Francisco where she joined the Palace for the first
time accepting the position as Hotel Manager.  In 2019, she was named
General Manager of the San Francisco Marriott Union Square where she
worked for almost four years before returning to the Palace as the first
woman General Manager in January 2023.

Clifton has been involved in continuing hospitality education through
mentorship, teaching leadership programs and service promise training.
She is an active member of the Bay Area Council and the San Francisco
Travel Association. She has served on the Board of Directors for the
Hotel Council of San Francisco since 2020.
