‘I-Spy NY’ mural was painted by attendees during tradeshow at the ACC
ALBANY, N.Y. – A new mural adorning the Center for Disability Services
was donated this week by the Albany Capital Center (ACC). The mural was
created by attendees of the annual Empire State Society of Association
Executives [2] (ESSAE) which met at the Albany Capital Center this past
June.
“It gives great satisfaction to know that the work created by ESSAE
attendees and sponsored by ACC will bring comfort and warmth to people
with disabilities for years to come,” said Shannon Licygiewicz, general
manager, Albany Capital Center. “We hope the mural brings a smile to the
faces of the adults, children, and families who rely on the Center for
Disability Services as well as its teachers and staff who touch so many
lives.”
The mural’s creation was guided by a national nonprofit, Splashes of
Hope, during an interactive “Painting with Purpose” team building
session that took place during the ESSAE conference. Founded in 1996,
Splashes of Hope is dedicated to creating art that transforms spaces,
enriches environments and facilitates healing.
The Center for Disability Services took possession of the
4-feet-by-eight-feet ‘I-Spy-NY’ mural when it was installed in its Kevin
G. Langan School this week by Splashes of Hope. The theme of the mural
highlights landmarks across New York state including the Statue of
Liberty and Niagara Falls.
“This beautiful mural is a welcome addition to our Center and will be
admired by all who come through our Langan School doors,” said Gregory
J. Sorrentino, president and CEO, Center for Disability Services. “This
is but another wonderful example of the generosity of our capital region
community.”
“The I-Spy NY mural is a reflection of the high-quality care that is
provided by Langan School, whose three ultimate goals for their
graduates are independence, community inclusion, and self-determination.
Our hope is that the addition of this mural will aid the teachers and
staff to successfully meet these goals through art” said Roman
Krawczyk, president, Splashes of Hope.
Splashes of Hope incorporated the GOAT boat into the mural as a nod to
the ACC representing the Greatest of All Tradeshows team. ACC’s
sponsorship of the mural is part of ASM Global Acts, ASM Global’s
corporate social responsibility platform.
