SAVANNAH, GA — The 2020 Prime Site Award-winning Savannah Convention Center has achieved the GBAC STAR™ facility accreditation from the Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC), a Division of ISSA, and the leading trade association for the cleaning industry. The GBAC STAR program helps commercial and public facilities of all sizes establish and carry out an organized approach to cleaning, disinfection and infection prevention.

“We are extremely proud to receive this important accreditation for our facility,” said Sherri Spinks, General Manager of the Savannah Convention Center. “Our staff, along with our Board of Directors, is committed to providing a clean and safe venue for meeting and event planners, attendees, as well as our staff members. Together, we are committed to providing the highest cleaning and disinfection protocols for our facility.”

“We commend the Savannah Convention Center team for being early adopters in our industry to take this important step, not only for their staff but also for our customers,” said Joe Marinelli, President of Visit Savannah. “This is just one more reason why, along with everything else that our beautiful city has to offer, meeting planning professionals must consider Savannah for their upcoming programs.”

The performance-based GBAC STAR program enables facilities to create and maintain an effective cleaning, disinfection and infectious disease prevention program. To achieve GBAC STAR accreditation, facilities must demonstrate compliance with the program’s 20 elements, ranging from standard operating procedures and risk-assessment strategies to personal protective equipment and emergency preparedness and response measures.
